Abstract On Malcolm Schofield’s highly influential reading of the Similarity Regress in Part I Parmenides , problem that poses is explanatory. Socrates posited Form order to explain why similar things are similar: because they participate as copies same original. Yet, generates an infinite series Forms such explanation deferred ad infinitum. Schofield provides a philosophical incentive for adopting his reading. He argues treatment similarity II dialogue yields complete similarity. If we adopt this account, can avoid altogether since not needed similar. Thus, interpretation has hugely important pay-off. Epistemic and Dialectical Regress
Dialectical egalitarianism holds that every asserted proposition requires defence when challenged by an interlocutor. This view apparently generates a vicious “regress of justifications,” since an interlocutor can challenge the premises through which a speaker defends her original assertion, and so on ad infinitum. To halt the regress, dialectical foundationalists such as Adler, Brandom, Leite,...
متن کاملThe Epistemic Regress Problem
The best extant statement of the epistemic regress problem makes assumptions that are too strong. An improved version assumes only that that reasons require support, that no proposition is supported only by endless regresses of reasons, and that some proposition is supported. These assumptions are individually plausible but jointly inconsistent. Attempts to explain support by means of unconcept...

This paper presents a new approach to constructive induction, Discrimination-Based Constructive induction(DBC), which invents useful predicates in learning relations. Triggered by failure of selective induction, DBC finds a minimal set of variables forming a new predicate that discriminates between positive and negative examples, and induces a definition of the invented predicate. If necessary,...

In this paper, we introduce a new touch sensor design, which we refer to as hybrid tactile sensor. It combines the simplicity of analog touch sensing, which is widely used in electronic touch screens and touchpads, with the ability of shape discrimination of the array touch senstactile sensors designed for robotics applidescribe the construction techniques of the sensor, its modelling, and shap...
